This entire month, I did not travel at all..imagine that! It was nice to stay grounded during the summer as I had time to think and plan for both my travel and real estate businesses.
And maybe it’s time for you to start planning about your future travels! Here are some trips I recommend planning well in advance!
Some vacations are easy to plan on a whim. Others – the ones you’ve dreamed about for years – deserve a little more time.
Planning 12-18 months in advance can make all the difference. Booking early often means better availability, more choices, the opportunity to spread out payments, and less stress as your departure date approaches.
Here are four bucket list trips I always recommend planning well in advance.

1. Antarctica
Standing among thousands of penguins, watching whales surface beside your expedition ship, and witnessing towering glaciers up close is unlike anything else in the world! Antarctica is truly so much better in person than what you see in a video or documentary.
Because the travel season is limited to just a few months each year, expedition ships fill quickly. Most ships are small by design, allowing for a more intimate experience and responsible exploration, which also means there are fewer cabins available.
Booking 12–18 months in advance gives you the best opportunity to:
- Choose your preferred sailing dates.
- Reserve the cabin category that’s right for you.
- Take advantage of early booking promotions when available.
- Plan international flights and pre- or post-cruise accommodations with ease.
Having experienced Antarctica firsthand, I can honestly say it’s one of the most unforgettable places I’ve ever visited! If it’s on your bucket list, it’s worth planning early.

2. African Safari
No two safaris are ever the same. One morning you may watch elephants gather at a watering hole, while the next you’re tracking lions or spotting a leopard resting in a tree. It’s one of the few vacations where every day brings something completely unexpected.
Many of Africa’s premier safari lodges are intentionally small, offering an intimate experience with exceptional service. As a result, accommodations during peak wildlife viewing seasons can sell out well over a year in advance.
Planning ahead allows you to:
- Stay at your preferred safari lodge or camp.
- Visit during the best wildlife viewing seasons.
- Coordinate flights between multiple destinations.
- Build a customized itinerary that matches your travel style.
After hosting clients on safari and experiencing the magic of Africa myself, I know firsthand why so many travelers say it changes the way they see the world. One of my favorite trips I’ve ever taken!!

3. European Christmas Market River Cruises
Imagine strolling through centuries-old town squares filled with twinkling lights, sipping warm mulled wine, shopping for handcrafted ornaments, and returning each evening to the comfort of your river ship. Sounds amazing right?!!
Christmas Market river cruises have become one of Europe’s most popular holiday experiences, and for good reason. They combine festive traditions, charming villages, and the ease of unpacking just once.
Because these sailings are incredibly popular, especially those departing in late November and December, they often sell out 12–18 months before departure.
Booking early gives you the opportunity to:
- Choose your preferred itinerary and cruise line.
- Reserve the cabin category you want.
- Take advantage of early booking offers.
- Coordinate holiday schedules and airfare before prices increase.
If a magical holiday vacation has been on your wish list, this is one trip you’ll want to secure early. I’m excited to do my first Christmas Market river cruise this coming November!!

4. Milestone Celebrations
Whether you’re planning a retirement adventure, a milestone birthday, a special anniversary, a family reunion, or another meaningful celebration, giving yourself 12 – 18 months to plan opens up far more possibilities.
Planning ahead allows you to:
- Find accommodations that fit your group.
- Coordinate schedules with family and friends.
- Budget comfortably with payments spread over time.
- Add unique experiences that make the trip truly personal.
- Enjoy the anticipation instead of rushing the planning process.

Why Planning Early Matters
Planning early can help you:
- Access the best availability before it sells out.
- Take advantage of early booking promotions when available.
- Spread payments over a longer period.
- Coordinate flights and accommodations with less stress.
- Secure special experiences, excursions, or celebrations before they fill.
- Enjoy the excitement of looking forward to your trip.
